A: Because sometimes they don't want to talk to an automatic voice messenger system, or they're interrupting an already established phone call, or people just plain don't want to talk to anybody.

| [ | mood |
| | complacent | ] | As impressive as the High Line is, it's rather short comparing the full path from the streets to the actual public space. There is no Atari dealer at the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market, reputable or otherwise. Only on 10th Avenue can you see the back side of the NYC skyline. Likewise, only on Amsterdam Avenue can you see the back side of Lincoln Center. Very uninteresting. You'd think Best Buy would take over the old Circuit City location on the Upper West Side. Instead, it's a seasonal Halloween costume palace. Between funnel cake and chocolate covered marshmallows, the latter is the better bargain.

[Oct. 3rd, 2009|03:58 pm] |
Just saw the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3D Double Feature. Smartest thing Disney has ever done (enjoy it while you can, it's probably the only smartest thing Disney will ever do). Not to mention I got in at a Matinee price. What does this mean exactly? Let's break down the Math:
Matinee discount + 3D Double Feature = Got My Money's Worth.
Disney should do double features more often. Heck, while they're at it, why not throw in a cartoon before the program? Seriously, that would be awesome.

| [ | mood |
| | tired | ] | K-Mart's Transformers toys are more expensive than Toys R Us (by about one dollar) Toys R Us's Transformers toys went up a dollar. I finally found where that costume palace by West 43rd Street is but did not enter due to the large bottle of ice I had with me. The Intrepid Museum costs roughly $20 to board. The Circle line is not just at Battery Park, but it does cost about the same as a trip to the Statue of Liberty. All cruises cost about the same.

| I am a victim of mass media franchise consumption |
[Jul. 25th, 2009|08:44 pm] |
I went to see Transformers: Rise of The Fallen in IMAX, which would have been impressive if I hadn't seen it already the last two times. Then immediately afterward I headed to the Toys R Us to seek out and purchase either Optimus Prime or Bumblebee. I found the former for relatively less than what I would have paid for the latter. Now the $29.25 question here is do I open the box and display it in all its robot-mode glory? An online friend says "Keep it in the box," my sister says it's my decision, my other sister says I shouldn't have bought it in the first place and my mother sorta agrees with both my sisters while throwing in another question: Where am I going to keep it?

| Just got Twitter |
[Jul. 11th, 2009|09:44 am] |
I first heard about Twitter right from this very website. I believe it is budsharpe 's personal method of communication on LJ. Not that I'm trying to copycat him or anything, but I would like to know how to make it work for me. I know he's probably a little tired from CONvergence and all, so I will be willing to give him some time.

| The Gathering (Gargoyles Fan Convention): 1997 - 2009 |
[Jun. 23rd, 2009|06:40 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | devious | ] | In 1994, The Disney Afternoon, a block of syndicated animated programs from Walt Disney Television Animation, launched a revolutionary series about a group of stone guardians who would break free of their encasement to protect the island of Manhattan in a world they never knew. The series was simply entitled, "Gargoyles" During the three years of its existence, fans from all around the globe, powered by the technology of the Internet, shared stories, artwork, info and ideas which would invariably end up in what was known as "The Gathering", a convention like nothing else in existence. My sister was a part of this and hooked up with some well-meaning, like-minded individuals as well. Naturally, I followed along. That was my first mistake.
For me, the fandom lasted for three good years, and ended in Dallas where instigators and ne'er-do-wells made the con very uncomfortable for me and the companions that I was with. In fact, when I returned home, I didn't realize that I would lose everything that I had, including the first female who would ever show me love. Of course, I would not know that Internet relationships are not the best ones until much later, but that's an entry for another time.
Now I've been informed that this year's Gathering in August will be the last one ever. No additional information was available at this time. I had several thoughts about how I would react to such news, considering that this particular fandom ruined my life and to a lesser degree my sister's life. So I decided to sum up my thoughts like this: ( ... )( ... )( ... )

| Sometimes I just don't get advertising. |
[Jun. 17th, 2009|06:36 pm] |
So there's this new reality show on cable called "Dance Your Ass Off", and from what I gathered from the advertising alone (I wouldn't watch it), it's supposed to be one of those dance competitions, only the hook is the dancers are overweight and are looking to shed pounds and win cash. Sort of what happens when you take "So You Think You Can Dance?" and "The Biggest Loser", toss it in a blender and whip it all into a lame smoothie of televised "entertainment". ( Read more... ) |

Finally saw Star Trek on Saturday. My friends said it was awesome, and they were right. I won't post any spoilers. All I'll say is be prepared for some unusual surprises involving visitors from the future.
And today, I joined my sister for a day at the Museum of Natural History. Out of their two specialty exhibits, Climate Changes and Extreme Mammals, we both agreed that the Extreme Mammals exhibit was our favorite.
Tomorrow, I do laundry, clean house, and start the packing process for my trip. Wish me luck for next weekend when my train leaves for Florida.

| The Moonlighters are awesome |
[May. 16th, 2009|01:18 am] |
Unfortunately, the venue where i saw them at was not.
It was called The Living Room, and it was on Ludlow Street in the LES. Usually, I like to sit in the front close to the stage where you could see everything. That was not the case. It seemed that people were there from the previous show who wanted to check out the other acts. I was stuck a row back and off to the left side, and there was this one guy with a huge head sitting where I should have been.
But at least I got to see them, and that's all that matters.

| Top Ten Things I Have Learned While Being Offline |
[Apr. 13th, 2009|07:10 pm] |
• Prepare all your downloads and online purchases before you disconnect for a long period of time. • According to my concierge, there are always things happening in Times Square and the Village. • According to me, those things usually cost money. • There is a geek rock band called Uncle Monster Face that sells their wares in Union Square Park. • Sometimes the Village Voice doesn't list where your favorite bands are playing. • Most of your information is not going to be readily available, or if it is, it has become more complicated to attain. • Don't be afraid to make a phone call to your friends, even if they behave indignant towards you. • $16.50 for a 3D movie is a rip off, no matter how you justify the cost of the glasses. • Giving up the computer for the purposes of cracking an addiction can not only intensify said addiction, but can lead to other addictions as well. • The next time I want to give up something I enjoy much for a significant period of time, I think I will go back to giving up desserts or ice cream or peanut butter or even comic books, definitely not the use of my home computer.

| | pissed off beyond all hell | ] | So here I am trying to copy and burn a homemade DVD from another homemade DVD, and I'm not having any kind of success. I tried copying and pasting the contents to a DVD RW: that doesn't work. I try using copying software, it just duplicates the contents of the movie files on disk. I tried using disk utility in Mac to create a disk image: that doesn't work. I'm beginning to think I WASTED MONEY THAT I CAN'T GET BACK ON THE WRONG DVD MEDIA! At this rate, I may have to actually recreate the DVD from scratch, but I can't do that because I dont' have all the contents of the original (Like the great Luke Ski/Devo Spice animated video Peter Parker; It's not on YouTube. Nothing's on YouTube)

| Did you ever have the feeling that you were being ignored? |
[Feb. 13th, 2009|07:09 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | annoyed | ] | Think about it. The Internet has become boring, there's nobody online who wants to contact me, practically nobody reads this LJ that I have (based on the non-existent comments that I'm not getting), and what kind of traffic have I gotten to my website? My email contains spam that I know I've signed up for instead of from friends who say, "Hey, great website! Love the pics of costumed people." I don't get anything like that, and I distributed alot of my business cards so people can check out said website. I even fixed the photo page so people could find the costume site easier.
Did everybody all of a sudden get up and get a life for some reason? I thought life was all about getting up in the morning, going to work, getting paid, going home to relax, and then sleep when you're done. Is there some deeper meaning that I'm not getting? What is it all about?

[Feb. 12th, 2009|08:39 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | pissed off | ] | It seems like everybody's singing the praises of this bogus IM client called IMVU, which is the more popular of the 3-D IM clients. I can see where the cute-ability quotient appeals to the average user as the 3-D avatars are very anime-like. But what really gets me steamed is that there is no IMVU for Macs at all. Even on the IMVU site is says, "We cannot give you an estimate on when this will become available" Translation: We are a bunch of lazy fucks who scam you into registering for this Myspace with dolls and charge you for credits to dress up your avatar and rip you off" Well I say FUCK YOU IMVU, you can go fuck fourteen horses for marketing to the lowest common audience. >:P
